North Atlantic Right Whale - "Deep Blue"

From the Artist:
"The whale is approximately 13 inches long measured thru the curve of the body - tip of the snout to the notch of the flukes. The Flukes are 5 inches tip to tip. This translates to 1/48th scale, as an average female Right Whale can be 52 feet long with flukes 20 feet across. The piece stands 15 inches high overall. The base, cast from a beautiful piece of Manzanita Burl, sweeps up and catches the inside of the Whale's right flipper, imparting a dramatic cantilever to the sculpture.
Right Whales are characterized by their robust body, huge arched jaw, narrow rostrum and lack of a dorsal fin. The irregular white patch on the Right Whale's belly is typical but different and distinctive as a fingerprint from one individual to another. I've applied an Indigo Blue, almost black patina to this bronze and sealed the patina with a hi gloss clear acrylic to give it slick wet look. Callosities on the chin, snout, jaw line, lips and over the eyes are also typical. These are raised patches of rough skin that host concentrations of 'Cyamids' or 'Whale Lice'. Every Right Whale is born with a different pattern of roughened skin on their heads, and therefore develop a different and distinctive pattern of Callosities as well."
This is the first in a series of Great Whales Bill will sculpt at 1/48th scale. The edition size is 250 and each subsequent whale in this series will be editions of 250. The piece will include on the base, Bill's signature, edition number, title and the year ('07) that the original work was done.
Note: This is a very new piece and edition numbers are currently very low!
